Daily Schedule

At the heart of each day at Telos Micro School lies a balance between autonomy and structure. Although there's a defined daily routine, every day is unique due to the offerings of varied subject matter and opportunities present. A usual day kicks off with a motivating or insightful discussion with student peer groups, then moves into a substantial period dedicated to the Problem of Practice.

From here, students move into a block dedicated to their “Applied Knowledge” competency (known more commonly as traditional subjects or core content: math, reading, writing, etc.). During this span, students have the liberty to learn in ways and places they find most beneficial. In this period, it's common for students to collaborate, help their peers, and/or seek guidance from their mentors. They're free to take breaks when they feel, snack, hydrate, and generally manage their learning journey. They hold great respect for the established routine and tailor their activities around it. There are designated breaks later in the day for lunch and free time.

The afternoon typically hosts an extended session for more core content learning or deep dives into projects/apprenticeships. Lastly, there are other opportunities sprinkled throughout for delving into arts, music, history, and various subjects that pique the students' curiosity.

Sample Middle School Schedule

  • Students engage in clubs, passion projects, sports, play, activities, etc.

  • Students meet each morning in small groups to start the day. This time is used to build community, bond, share stories, reflect, provide support, and more. It’s a dedicated safe space for students to build deep bonds with their peers.

  • Students break up into their Problem of Practice groups and continue working on their project or presentation. Navigate to the “Signature Learning Experiences” page to learn more about the Problem of Practice.

  • Students now break for lunch, as well as a dedicated time to socialize, play, and spend time with their friends. This time of the day is intentionally a “no tech time.”

  • This is the time that students work toward earning credit in their “Applied Knowledge” competency. These are the traditional subjects more commonly known as Math, Science, Reading, Writing, etc.

  • Students now have an opportunity to dive deep into an area they are passionate about. This may be computer coding, robotics, the arts, or anything their imagination holds.

This is also a time that students can create or participate in any sort of club or activity they would like. Want a Chess Club? Start one. Want an Art Club? Start one. Want a Harry Potter Club? Start one.

  • All hands on deck for clean up time. Students will share in the responsibility of ensuring their community and work space looks even better than when they arrived that morning.

  • Students are free to be picked up or head home. We intentionally have dismissal last for an hour to give just that much more time for students to engage in any sort of play, clubs, or activities they find engaging and interesting.
